As a Senior Grains Operator, you will play a critical role in setting up, structuring, and running the end-to-end execution of physical trade contracts for grains (wheat, corn, barley, soybean) and oilseeds. Working directly with the trading desk, you will oversee maritime and overland logistics, manage contract lifecycles, and implement best practices to mitigate operational risks in an agile startup framework.

About Our Client

Our client is an emerging international commodity trading house based in Geneva.

Job Description

Desk Building & Trade Execution:

  • Take full ownership of the lifecycle of physical grain transactions from contract signing to final settlement.
  • Establish and coordinate vessel chartering, space bookings, and shipment tracking with shipbrokers and port agents.
  • Oversee dry bulk cargo loading, discharging, and transit operations across European and global maritime corridors.



Documentation, Compliance & Processes:

  • Structure and handle all standard shipping documentation (Bills of Lading, commercial invoices, letters of indemnity, certificates of origin, quality, and weight).
  • Ensure strict alignment with international customs, regulatory standards, and internal compliance/KYC frameworks.
  • Manage and enforce contract specifications governed by international trade bodies (e.g., GAFTA/FOSFA rules).



Financial & Risk Control:

  • Execute and monitor Letters of Credit (L/Cs) in close coordination with European trade finance institutions.
  • Handle the calculation of laytime, demurrage/despatch, inspection fees, and freight costs.
  • Assist in maintaining trade management systems to ensure precise real-time oversight of price and counterparty exposure.

The Successful Applicant

Experience:

  • 5 to 8+ years of solid experience in trade execution or traffic operations within a commodity trading house, with an absolute focus on grains, oilseeds, or agricultural products.
  • Proven adaptability and a desire to operate in an agile, fast-paced, and growing desk environment.



Technical & Soft Skills:

  • Deep understanding of dry bulk shipping, charterparties, Incoterms, and UCP 600 rules for Letters of Credit.
  • Exceptional organizational and problem-solving skills to manage logistical unexpected claims or delays independently.



Language Requirements:

  • French: Native-level proficiency required (essential for integration into the local corporate office environment and specific European market counterparties).
  • English: Advanced / Proficient (C1 level minimum), as it is the primary language of international grain contracts and maritime trade.
  • Additional Languages: Fluency in Turkish, Arabic, or Spanish is considered a strong asset to match the expansion targets of the trading desk.
