After several years as a salesperson in the IT industry and e-commerce, I wanted to go back to a consulting firm. PageGroup convinced me right away with its clearly defined career development opportunities. I like to be part of a global company that moves at high speed.
Tell us about your PageGroup career so far
I started as a Consultant in 2017 specializing in the recruitment of senior sales positions across industries such as IT and Machine Engineering. I had two promotions so far, met more than 400 candidates and clients, and became one of the company's top billers. I always try to create a win-win situation for clients and candidates. It's a great feeling to change the lives of candidates for the better by offering them interesting jobs in top companies.
What is most rewarding about your job?
At Page you can control the pace of your career development. I never get up in the morning and feel like that „I have to go to work". Every day is different. Our office is in a prime location in Zurich close to the lake, my superior is my mentor who always supports me, I get along well with my peers and it is a great feeling being the trusted Advisor for my clients. The promotions as well as the good salary are for sure important factors, but it is more than that: our vision is to make PageGroup the best recruitment consultancy in Switzerland. Being part of a hard-working team that shares our vision is motivating.
What skills from your background in Sales helped with your transition into recruitment?
I learned Sales from scratch. Back then I have worked as a salesman doing over 2000 cold calls in a year. Those years have made me more mature and I have learned to be resilient. Today I value the great importance of specialist knowledge. I need high technical affinity and good market knowledge to satisfy customer’s needs. I personally use various sales techniques to meet the complex needs of my customers. Be willing to learn, be resilient, think long-term, and eventually you will become an expert in your field.
What advice would you give someone with a Sales background who wanted a job in recruitment?
If you are looking for a long-term career, then recruitment is certainly an exciting option. It takes time to learn the basics and to become a resilient Consultant. Empathy, good communication skills and knowledge of human nature are required. Once you have reached a certain level of seniority, clients and candidates will respect you as an expert. You will become important in other people’s life. Finally, recruiters love having fun: we celebrate all birthdays and anniversaries, we have company sport events and much more.
